چکیده

Breast cancer is most frequently encountered cancer in women. It comprises 18% of all cancers in women. Risk for incident breast cancer is increased by advancing age (Siegel et al., 2012). Clinical behavior is characterized with a prolonged natural course and heterogeneity. Patients diagnosed as breast cancer carry metastasis risk for long periods and definition of cure is problematic. Treatment decisions depend on tumor characteristics and treatment response (Sotiriou et al., 2003; Sezer et al., 2011). Adjuvant therapy reduces mortality risk by 20-25% in preand post-menopausal cases (Aggarwal and Gehlot 2009; Azab et al., 2012; Siegel et al., 2012). Diagnosis of breast cancer raises several questions for both patient and clinician. The most important problems include which treatments will be employed, and in which combinations and order, particularly to which cases. To answer these questions, likelihood of recurrence should

Effects of Melatonin on IL-6 Serum Level Changes and Fatigue Caused by Adjuvant Chemoradiotherapy in Breast Cancer Women: A Randomized Controlled Trial

Introduction: Cancer-related fatigue is one of the most common and debilitating complications of breast cancer. Cancer patients have been found to have lower levels of melatonin, and fatigue has been shown to be correlated with both melatonin and interleukin (IL-6) in cancer patients. This study aimed to evaluate the fatigue and serum level of IL-6 in response to melatonin treatment in breast c...

Sensitivity and Specificity of CA 15-3 in Detection of Breast Cancer Recurrence

Background: The value of CA15-3(cancer antigen 15-3) marker in early detection of breast cancer recurrence has been studied in several prospective trials. But the results of these studies are different. This may be due to variable cutoff points used for analysis, different intervals between CA15-3 measurements and the differences between patients population. This study was done to examine the p...

Acute Skin and Pharynx Complications Following Adjuvant Hypofractionated Versus Conventional Radiotherapy in Patients with Breast Cancer

Background: Hypofractionated radiotherapy (HF) method was introduced to overcome the quickly growing tumor cells as well as shortening whole treatment course in solid tumors such as breast cancers. Here, we compared the incidence of dermatitis and pharyngitis among patients undergoing HF versus conventional fractionationated (CF) radiation therapy following surgery for breast cancer. Methods: ...

Evaluating the effects of esophageal and breast cancer radiotherapy on the cardiac function and determining the relationship between the dosimetric parameters and ejection fraction changes

Background: In the radiotherapy of patients with esophagus and breast cancer, the heart receives a significant dose of radiation that might cause heart complications. Thefore, the aim of the current study was to evaluate the effects of esophagus and left breast cancer radiotherapy on the cardiac function and to determine the relationship between the dosimetric parameters and ejection fraction (...
